Palace of the King
Dead Sea
Limited edition of 52
I ascended to the top of the ancient fortress Masada in hopes of capturing the grandeur of this meeting point between the Dead Sea and the Judean hills. I searched for the best view and eventually found myself standing in the ‘Northern Palace’ of King Herod. I planned to capture the scene just as the sun was setting so that the rays would reflect off the tips of the cliffs and give them the shining glow that is seen in this photo. At that moment standing in the king’s palace, overlooking this incredible sunset scene, I felt like royalty. It truly is powerful to feel a connection to a king. From this experience, I can better understand the Torah’s use of imagery of Hashem as King. Hashem created this world to be His dwelling place. If we are able to open our hearts to the majesty of the world around us, we have the opportunity to step into the palace of the true King Himself at any moment.
