Majestic
Ga'ash Beach
Limited edition of 52
From the beginning of the creation of the world, praise for the Holy One Blessed Be He came only from the water, as the verse states, 'From the voices of the great, crashing waters of the sea' What did the waters say? 'God is majestic on high' (Psalms 93:4). So God said “These waters, who don’t have a mouth, or speech, or words, are praising me–When I create humanity, how much more so will they!'_ (_Midrash Genesis Rabbah 5:1)
Walking along the beach as a photographer, I am alert for the right moment, searching for the optimal location and angle to enable me to record and share my sense of awe. It is not unlike the experience of searching for the right words to express my wonder of God–drawing on the power of speech within, and on the vast ocean of source material our Tradition provides. The waves of the sea, too, are my teachers of prayer, unceasingly calling forth the majesty of the Creator in whispers and in thunder.
