Distant Hope

I set up my camera to capture this photograph when the world around me was still black from the long night. It seemed as if there was nothing to be uncovered. Yet I stood there with hope and certainty that the sky would be illumined by the sun and reveal this hidden beauty in front of me. I find that a deep yearning embedded within humanity is the yearning for love and unity to pervade all of existence. I personally feel that an important aspect of this yearning is to be certain that this will soon become a reality. Just as the sun illumines the night, so too love and unity will fill the world. The Jewish people, scattered around the world for thousands of years, have remained a nation held together by this yearning. The sun is finally beginning to rise with the return of the Jewish people to Israel. I feel that I can stand confidently in the darkness that remains with the certainty that the beautiful colors within the world around me will soon be revealed in their entirety.
