City of Gold
Mount Olives
Limited edition of 10
I captured this photo overlooking Jerusalem on the morning of Tu B’Shevat, the day that is celebrated as the new year of the trees. This holiday generally falls out around February, when it is still cold and the buds of spring have yet to be seen. Yet, we celebrate the potential within the seeds as they begin to sprout once again beneath the surface. Usually the moon is full for this holiday, however this year it fell out on the same day as the lunar eclipse. During this lunar eclipse, the full and bright moon gradually shrunk down to nothingness as it disappeared behind the skyline and the sun rose behind me. I could not think of a more powerful way to photograph Jerusalem, glowing in a gold light as the full moon miraculously disappears on the holiday of potential and growth.
